Greeted by the lovely sound of the 1st Willow Warbler of the year here at Caldene Fields this morning. Did one hour of visible migration but there was nothing really of note. But what nice to see was Greenfinches and Chaffinches in early courtship. In fact a male Chaffinch was so concentrated on impressing the nearby female I was only a few feet away from him as I walked passed…..
A couple of Lesser Redpoll were at Toad Holes Beck but no further Blackcaps have arrived as yet……….
Two male Blackcaps were at Toad Holes beck this morning both feeding together. Also there was 4 Chiffchaff and a single song thrush.
The Fisherman’s pond at Toad Holes Beck has been drained and will be restocked. I just wish they would delay filling it because with all this lovely mud about who knows what might turn up!
Three adult Mute swans moved S/W over Caldene Fields this morning. First thought they were the now resident birds from nearby Harold Park but they circled gained height and flew off south… Given these recent easterly wind I still have not had any Northern Wheatears pass through, usually they pass through on a west or S/W wind so fingers crossed for next week……
